The Age of Adaline - An Original Love Story

The Age of Adaline: A Review

Plot Summary:
The Age of Adaline is a romantic self discovery story about a beautiful and timeless woman named Adaline, who because of an undiscovered scientific anomaly, does not age.  The film follows Adaline’s life in the year 2014, with frequent flashbacks from years past that give us a peek into who she is and what her life has been like.

Thoughts:
In terms of love stories, The Age of Adaline is not what I would call a traditional romance.  The overall storyline and course that the film takes were not quite what I expected, but still generally likable.  Blake Lively (Gossip Girl, The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants) takes the sophisticated lead, and does a respectable job.  Lively, joined by Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones), Ellen Burstyn (Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood) and Harrison Ford (practically every good movie ever), create a solid and dynamic cast that was both intriguing and fitting.  Though good performances were given by everyone, the film lacked an overall “umph” that I really wanted, and would've given this original plot some kick.  There also seemed to be a ton of material glazed over that could have been delicious to elaborate on, making this perhaps better suited to be a television series.  The costuming though was superb, and deserves a round of applause. But, throughout the film, I kept finding myself wanting more of Adaline’s experiences and stories from years previous.  C'est la vie, it was still a pretty good flick.

Content Overview:
The Age of Adaline was in my opinion, very clean.  There is mild language in a few instances, some kissing, and a scene with the female protagonist in some conservative lingerie, indicating that they may have just slept together.
