Sweet Unrest by Lisa Maxwell: A Spooky Adventure/Romance

Sweet Unrest is a spooky adventure romance, ideal for the Halloween season.  Taking place in vibrant New Orleans, heroine Lucy Aimes reluctantly moves there with her family for the summer, expecting to be bored in her new southern plantation home.  Little does Lucy know, things she never thought existed are lurking around every corner in the city she finds so darkly enchanting.

Illusions of Fate by Kiersten White: A Magical Romantic Comedy for Girls

Illusions of Fate is a relatable Young Adult (YA) fantasy story about a girl named Jessamin, who is a dark skinned island girl who moves to the big posh city, and just doesn’t fit in.  She is a witty and strong willed heroine who doesn’t expect any favors, but just wants to be treated like everyone else and to earn her own way in the world.

Fans of Jane Austen will appreciate Jessamin’s dry and well timed humor, and fans of YA authors such as Cassandra Clare will soak up the enchanting yet familiar world that author Kiersten White paints.

Literature is Media

I’ve decided that while movies are one of my passions, I did name this blog MEDIA MIND for a reason.  Because I love an array of forms of media, and that includes literature.  As I consider myself a writer, I find it important for both my writing career and to keep my mind sharp, that I ponder, evaluate and dissect the literature I read.  Including the good, the bad, and the ugly.  So I hearby declare that I will post reviews of books in this forum henceforth.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

The Hobbit

The Battle of the Five Armies

An epic finale to an action packed trilogy

Grade: A-

By Moriya Bradley

What can I say? I absolutely adore The Lord of the Rings trilogy, so when The Hobbit was being made into a movie, it was like Christmas. And on top of that, it was being directed by Peter Jackson, the fantastic visionary who made The Lord of the Rings wonderful. And he has not disappointed with any of The Hobbit trilogy- least of all The Battle of the Five Armies.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1

Mockingjay Part 1

Left me hungry for part 2

A serious turn for the saga, emotional but solid.

Grade: B+

It is safe to say that Mockingjay Part 1 was not at all what I expected.

Pitch Perfect 2

Pitch Perfect 2:  Passing the Torch

A Review by Moriya Bradley

B+

When Pitch Perfect (2012) came out, it’s safe to say that it took the world by storm.  It was a relatively low budget “musical” if you will, based on the book by Mickey Rapkin, and the first week after it came out, it was all anyone could talk about.  The quick wit script combined with a cast of diverse, fabulous ladies, makes it no surprise that the film is now quoted and applauded everywhere.  The sequel, Pitch Perfect 2, is no exception.  Returning cast members include Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin, Brittany Snow, Rebel Wilson, Ben Platt, Anna Camp, Alexis Knapp, Ester Dean, Adam DeVine, Hana Mae Lee, John Michael Higgins and Elizabeth Banks.
